To Spitsbergen by motorboat

“Northbound, To Spitsbergen by Motorboat” is the account of a journey that at first seems completely impossible. But Harald Paul proves that you do not need a big ship for a long passage.

Step by step he turns a Norwegian production boat only seven metres long into a vessel fit for an expedition, and despite all the warnings – “tired of life” was still the kindest term for the plan – Harald and his wife Silvia set off from Hamburg on a cold March morning after three years of preparation. Destination: Spitsbergen – a passage that will take them into the most secluded bays of Norway and beyond the Arctic Circle into the solitude of the ice.

They have reckoned on five months for the journey. Five months along the Norwegian coast, where they will meet crazy and warm-hearted people, get to know nature from its hard and its magnificent side and enjoy a piece of freedom that many people can only dream of. Five months that also put their relationship to the test and make it clear that nobody can conquer the sea – because out there you are only tolerated.

An exciting account of an adventure without parallel!

What We Offer and Our Services

The main focus is repairs carried out from the water – supplemented by advice, talks and practical trips.

Repairs

With my WRB9 (an aluminium workshop ramp boat with a crane for lifting outboards) I am able to carry out repairs of every kind on ships from the water. With this option you are no longer tied to expensive harbours and are therefore completely free in your repair decision. From small welding jobs through to servicing engines and gearboxes, even repairs can be carried out that look hopeless. Whether a leisure boat or a fishing vessel, thanks to my decades of experience at sea with the assistance given to other ships along the way and my years of work in the shipyard, I usually find a solution to the problem. Depending on the size and displacement of the ship, I am also able to provide towing assistance with my main ship or the WRB9. For stranded or grounded ships in areas that are difficult to reach (rivers, shallow bays etc.), usually the one thing that saves them. The salvage equipment, which has been completed over the course of the expeditions, is very helpful in many situations. Diving equipment, heavy hand tools, cable winches with pulleys and chains round off the readiness for action. For longer distances that cannot be covered so quickly with my rig, my touring enduro is used. With it, smaller spare parts and the tools needed for them can also be taken to ships lying in dry dock inland. I round off this whole service with remote advice by telephone on 0049151 / 15 84 33 37 for urgent problems.
