A lot of different things can happen along the coasts of Labrador. So the people of Nain were surprised when a small boat with a German couple aboard tied up here a few weeks ago. Harald Paul and his wife came all the way across the Atlantic to Labrador. They are here to make a film and write a book about the magnificent nature. David Burke of the radio station “Labrador Morning” spoke to Harald Paul over the satellite phone in Nain.

Many people come to Labrador to experience the harsh climate of the north and the majestic scenery. A German couple, in their love of nature and adventure, have gained a great deal of new insight. Harald Paul and his wife Silvia lived aboard their boat all winter, anchored off the coast of Nain. Kate Kyle spoke to Harald Paul about his experiences this winter

Meet the crew of “Gypsy Life”

The last time Gypsy Life was in Labrador, she and her crew of two spent almost six months frozen in at Nain. That was four years ago. Now she is back – this time tied up at the wharf in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Just the latest harbour in an unbroken, eleven-year seafaring adventure. CBC reporter Matt McCann went aboard Gypsy Life to talk to Harald Paul.

A German couple’s boat is stuck in the ice at Happy Valley-Goose Bay. After a road trip to the USA fell through, Harald and Silvia Paul had wanted to carry on south by boat. Now they are settling in for the winter. John Gaudi of Labrador Morning visited Harald Paul and his wife to hear their story.

They gave up their house, their jobs, indeed their whole life, to go off exploring. Silvia and Harald Paul are two adventurers from Kapfelberg in the district of Kelheim.
They recently returned from their Alaska expedition aboard their boat “Gypsy Life”. They were under way for four years. Not everything worked out the way the two of them had imagined; nature was too powerful.
Even so – say the Pauls – they made astonishing discoveries:
“The polar bear does not have black skin at all, and it is not threatened with extinction either, as people always say.” Or: “We do not find that the glaciers are melting, quite the opposite.”
